About the Artist

Artist Gail Descoeurs was born in Montreal in 1962 and was introduced to painting by her father at the age of 17. Gail is predominately self-taught and throughout her early career as an artist she supported herself by pursuing a career in mechanical drafting.

Gail derives inspiration from the power of nature and she is moved by the different feelings that nature evokes. Her depiction of the natural world is at once bold and precise, yet serene and contemplative. Utilising realist qualities she reveals the perfect stillness in nature as timeless and ever powerful. Evoking memories, dreams and imagination her paintings create an ambience of profound peace in the magnificent detail of our natural environment.

Gail has been painting as a professional since 2006 and has rapidly gained recognition for her timeless artwork that borders on the mystical. She resides in the countryside to stay close to nature where she feels at peace and inspired every day.

Artist Statement

“My soul is deeply astounded by nature’s simple beauty with its ever-changing light and mood. As much as I love being in the forests, I am more drawn to wide open spaces where the earth meets the sky. These boundless expanding horizons are most liberating for my spirit and creative imagination. I am also known for chasing into oncoming storms to feel their power while standing in awe and wonder. There is this brief moment of a deep stillness before the clouds furiously unleash that I love to feel. It’s so strong you can almost hold that silence in your palms. The colors are rich while there is still light shining through a slight opening in the sky. Once that light disappears, I start running!

I am touched when my viewers tell me they can feel my paintings. That awareness is my reward. May my paintings carry the observer’s heart to that beautiful timeless place of quietude where I was held motionless in awe and wonder.”
